Colleagues,

I hope that this finds you all well.

I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Jaya Joshi in the Department of Wood Science (https://forestry.ubc.ca/faculty-profile/jaya-joshi/).

Jaya is a synthetic biologist who holds a BSc in Agriculture from the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (Pantnagar, India), an MSc from the University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore, India) and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Western Ontario.  Since 2017, she has served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Florida and Concordia University, specializing in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, microbiology and protein engineering.

Jaya’s work is decidedly interdisciplinary, incorporating bioinformatics, big data analysis, comparative genomics, microbial science and metabolic engineering, with the aim of developing novel methods for converting biomass-derived feedstocks into value-added products ranging form fuels to pharmaceuticals.  Jaya is a passionate science communicator and advocate, a skilled instructor and a collaborative researcher – she will undoubtedly make a wonderful, synergistic addition to our world-class cluster of bioproducts scholars.

Please join me in welcoming Jaya to the Faculty of Forestry community!

All the best,

Rob
