Please find below mental health supports compiled by Central HR – various resources for those that are impacted by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. [Apologies for any duplication]
Summary of Information on Mental Health Supports

- Orange Folder (attached) and under the “Helping Faculty and Staff in Distress” tab
- UBC provided Mental Health Supports – Employee & Family Assistance Plan (TELUS Health; formerly Lifeworks) and Extended Health Benefits Plan (Sun Life)
EFAP – Employee & Family Assistance Program
Provides short-term counselling using a variety modalities including:
- In-person counselling
- Telephonic counselling
- First chat – online or mobile
- E-counselling – secure email
- Video counselling
TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) platform has a number of self-serve resources that Faculty & Staff can access. Two resources available under “Support and Resources” tab:
- Coping in times of political uncertainty (article)
- The TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) Crisis Support line is open 24/7 from now until February 28 for anyone in Canada emotionally impacted by this tragedy. Call 1-844-751-2133 to receive professional emotional support and/or referral to community resources. This resource is available to anyone and everyone, client or not.
EHB Plan – Extended Health Benefits
- Provides up to $3,000 for psychological services provided by a licensed clinical counsellor / registered psychologist / registered social worker.
- Faculty and Staff can visit a practitioner of their choosing.
- Teledoc Medical Experts (formerly Best Doctors) – Mental Health Navigator assists individuals with navigating the complex mental health care system – Teledoc Medical Experts
