Forwarded on behalf of Nicole Adoranti, Embedded Counsellor

Hello all,

With the academic year about to begin, we thought it would be useful to remind you of the many mental health resources that are available to you should you need to access them at any point.

  • The confidential, 24 hours/7 days week Employee Family Assistance Plan to speak with a Mental Health Counsellor can be accessed at 1-866-424-0770. Sometimes the counsellor will facilitate follow-up sessions under a brief therapeutic model (usually 3-5 sessions).
  • Your faculty/staff extended benefits coverage also includes seeing a Clinical Counsellor, Psychologist or Social Worker. Please refer to your benefits package in regards to your coverage and how to submit a claim. If you need help finding a therapist, a good place to start is Psychology Today; considered the ‘yellow pages’ of Counsellors. You can also use the filters to narrow down your search to find someone who fits your needs. Oftentimes, counsellors will offer a 15-20 minute free consultation where you can chat and determine whether they are a good fit for you before committing.
  • A gentle reminder of the Orange Folder, which includes Steps to Assist Colleagues in Distress as well as a host of resources if you are concerned about a coworker. Additionally, the Green Folder outlines steps for helping students in distress, should you need it.
