On behalf of Dr. Greg Smith, Director of Safety

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

Its summer time and the warmer weather and less frequent use that some of the labs experience as people are on vacation can result in the water traps for the sinks drying out. This leads to air wafting up from the sewer lines that does not smell so good. The easy fix is to run the tap for about 30 seconds to refill the water trap.

Now just to be safe, if you smell a rotten egg smell, that is a gas leak and it needs to be reported immediately as per the Building Emergency Response Plan.

Hope you all have a safe summer. Best, Greg.
